BEIRUT: The Special Tribunal for Lebanon resumed witness testimony Monday.
While one witness was unable to appear for “personal reasons,” the Tribunal heard from Abdel-Badih al-Soussi, who managed the explosives unit of the ISF at the time of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s assassination.
Soussi said he did not go to the crime scene in the wake of the blast, but attended a meeting at the military court presided by Judge Rashid Mezher later that afternoon.
Soussi said that a member of the explosives bureau brought to that meeting car parts that were supposedly from the crater caused by the massive bomb. The judge asked explosives experts to determine the type of metal at the blast site, and ordered the crime scene to be cordoned off.
Soussi denied, however, that he asked for the car parts to be returned to the crime scene for in situ documentation. He also said there was no discussion of removing Hariri’s motorcade from the site during the Feb.14 meeting with Judge Mezher.
