BEIRUT: The Special Tribunal for Lebanon resumed witness testimonies Tuesday, questioning Brig. Gen. Assaad Nohra, head of the criminal division at the Internal Security Forces.
According to Nohra, the tenth witness at the STL, the forensic laboratories that received the specimens from the blast site did not begin working until after the summer of 2006, as scientists there were still being trained.
He confirmed that he was present at the blast site with forensic experts, where he said cotton swabs were taken and soil was sampled in order to determine the type of explosive used.
Before 2006, DNA tests were carried out in private universities, namely Université Saint Joseph and the American University of Science and Technology.
Nohra said according to their reports, samples of the alleged suicide bomber’s remains did not match with once-suspected Ahmad Abu Adass’ parents’ DNA.
The afternoon session also included testimony from an anonymous witness who worked at ISF at the time of the explosion and was assigned to provide technical assistance to Swiss experts.
