BEIRUT - A Lebanese man who beat his wife to death was arrested on Thursday, a statement issued by the Internal Security Forces said. Mohammad Nahli, who had been on the run, was arrested after several arrest warrants had been issued against him. Nahli’s wife, Manal Assi, endured hours of violent abuse by her husband last week at their house in Tariq al-Jedideh, an NGO said. According to KAFA (Enough Violence & Exploitation), Nahli used sharp tools to attack his wife who subsequently bled for hours before being admitted into the Al-Maqassed Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The report added that the abusive husband called the mother and siblings of Assi to “witness the state in which their daughter is.” He also prevented the emergency rescue team from entering the house and providing Assi with the needed medical aid. ISF Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Mousallem said that the family of the victim did not contact the security forces, NOW reported, adding that “the complaint was made by the hospital when Assi was admitted into it.”
