BEIRUT: Caretaker Social Affairs Minister Wael Abu Faour called for regulations to prevent the abuse of children on the Internet and the violation of their rights, the National News Agency reported Tuesday.
Abu Faour’s remarks came during an event organized by the Higher Council for Childhood to mark the global Safer Internet Day at the Order of Physicians building in the Beirut neighborhood of Adlieh.
“We are aware that there are possible dangers that you may face while using the Internet, but there are also a lot of benefits, that’s why the council will stand by every child who faces any kinds of problems and difficulties while using the Internet,” the head of the council, Rita Karam, said on behalf of Abu Faour at the event.
“You should report … your complaints so that we can together draft plans to confront these problems,” she added.
“We want to spread more awareness on how to confront violations on the Internet and protect our children.”
