BEIRUT: The Special Tribunal for Lebanon will hold a conference Tuesday that is likely to assess how long the defense team for a newly adjoined case needs to get up to speed.
The Status Conference at the STL’s trial chamber, based in the The Hague, Netherlands, will begin at 10 a.m. local time and will be broadcast on the Tribunal’s website in Arabic, English and French.
On Feb. 11, the STL joined the case of Hassan Merhi with that of four others suspected of involvement in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
Merhi’s lawyers argue that they have not had as much time as the legal team of the other defendants to prepare and are therefore at a disadvantage, a claim the Trial Chamber is expected to examine Tuesday.
