Islamist inmates detained in Jezzine Prison for fighting the army in the 2013 clashes in Sidon’s Abra called of their hunger strike after being promised trials by the end of June.

 

However, detainees in Roumieh Prison were continuing their hunger strike despite the deterioration of two of the inmates’ health, one of the prisoners told NOW on Wednesday.

 

The two men were identified as Sheikh Alaa al-Saleh and Khaled Amer.

 

A number of Islamist fighters who fought on behalf of firebrand cleric Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir were detained following the deadly June 2013  clashes that left at least 17 Lebanese soldiers dead.
