A project that aims at reinforcing the role of women in the Lebanese economy will be announced soon by the Beirut chapter of the Union for the Mediterranean, Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said Friday.

Speaking at a union workshop, Bassil said that Lebanon and the UFM both “share an ambition to advance their economy via a developmental path.”

With 43 member states in Europe and the Middle East, UFM works towards regional integration and interdependence between the countries, Bassil said.

Socially, the UFM-Lebanese partnership “strives to empower women and enhance their role in all [economic] sectors,” he added, announcing that the Secretary-General of the UFM’s Beirut branch would announce the launch of a new project soon.

The multilateral partnership will also work towards the development of vocational training programs in Lebanon’s educational sector and is looking towards funding small and medium sized enterprises.
