Dozens of Syrian refugees protested in Lebanon’s northern city of Tripoli demanding the United Nations provide them with aid.

“The UN has neglected its role of attending to the refugees’ welfare and has been busy financing the Syrian regime under the pretext of humanitarian aid,” the National News Agency quoted a protestor as saying.

The protestors demanded that their needs “be fulfilled promptly and that harsh decisions be taken against the Syrian regime.”

Lebanon is facing difficulties dealing with the increasingly high number of refugees fleeing Syria’s violence. More than 212,000 refugees are registered with the UNHCR in Lebanon.

Syria is witnessing a violent uprising against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, which has so far killed more than 60,000 people since its outbreak in March last year, according to figures released by the United Nations.
