Former General Security chief Jamil al-Sayyed has submitted CDs to Lebanon’s General Prosecutor which he said contained phone calls between Future bloc MP Okab Sakr and Syrian rebels.

“General Sayyed put at the disposal of General Prosecutor Hatem Madi the original CD copy of four phone calls that took place recently between MP Okab Sakr and Syrian armed groups,” a statement issued on Tuesday by Sayyed’s office read.

Sayyed said in his statement that he received the recordings of the alleged phone calls from Syrian journalist Rafiq Lotf, adding that the Syrian state TV had aired them a week ago.

He also said that the recordings captured Sakr discussing the “transfer of large amounts of money to Syrian gunmen.”

Sayyed’s statement claimed that in one of the phone calls, Sakr asked the gunmen to “unite and stop being divided” and “pledged to provide them with developed means of communications.”

He also said that Sakr asked the gunmen to “assign a spokesperson to deny the Free Syrian Army’s role in a series of explosions that targeted Aleppo.”

Sayyed added that in the recordings indicated a gunman telling Sakr that the “goods that he sent were not delivered.”

Sayyed said that as there was no mention of humanitarian aid in the phone calls, with the nature of the “goods” mentioned was unclear.

Pro-March 8 OTV and Al-Akhbar newspaper had released recordings indicating that Sakr was in contact with Syrian rebels to provide them with military support.

At a press conference in Istanbul, Sakr decried the recordings showcased on OTV and al-Akhbar as “altered” and revealed allegedly “untampered” recordings.

Lebanon’s New TV reported later that British company Audio Forensic Services said the tapes revealed by Sakr had not been altered in any way.
