BEIRUT: A landowner in a northern Lebanon town has evicted numerous Syrian refugees who were living on his land.
Refugees could be seen dismantling tents on Monday after repeated warnings by the landowner to evacuate, the state’s National News Agency reported.

The NNA said the Lebanese Army cut off a road near the camp in Minyara, Akkar, while refugees took down around 100 tents.

It is unclear whether a U.N. or other agency has rented land elsewhere to accommodate the refugees.

The UNHCR says there is a registered 1.1 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon, however the Lebanese government has put the actual number at just over 1.5 million.
