A score of Syrian nationals detained by the Lebanese Army last month following a raid in the northeastern town of Arsal have been referred to the judiciary for their involvement in terrorism, the Army said in a statement Monday.
The new detainees referred by the Directorate of Intelligence to the relevant judicial authorities for being involved in a terrorist acts brings the current total of referrals to 20, an Army statement said.
“And 152 detainees were handed over to the Directorate General of General Security for entering the country illegally, while 23 others were released for lack of evidence [of crimes],” the statement added.
Those detained were taken into custody after the Army raided two Syrian refugee settlements in Arsal on June 30. The military operation saw five suicide bombers, an explosive device and a grenade attack launched against the Army, who were conducting raids in the Nawar and Qareiah encampments in the town.
Following the attack, 355 Syrian nationals were detained.
