The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) denounces the racist rhetoric in which Baalbek-Hermel Governor Bashir Khodr addressed Syrian refugees in Lebanon, where he criticized demands for increased assistance to refugees.

CLDH emphasizes that refusing to use the word "refugee" reinforces racism and hatred and contradicts international conventions. In fact, the right to asylum was enshrined in article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and article 12 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. It is also important to note that the deterioration of the economic situation is due to the impunity that has infiltrated all levels of the Lebanese State, especially the judicial sphere.
