Media Against Violence called on Lebanese television station Al-Manar to issue an apology after a brawl erupted during a live political chat show.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the organization said that the television station should apologize to journalist Assad Beshara after he was verbally and physically attacked by show guest Salim Zahran.

“They should apologize to Beshara for the abuse he suffered,” the statement said.

“They should have [thanked him for accepting to appear on their [show].”

The statement also upbraided show host Imad Marmal for “standing at an equal distance from the abuser and the abused.”

Al-Manar is the mouthpiece of the Shiite group Hezbollah.
