Minister of Social Affairs, Wael Abou-Faour begged the European Union for assistance in taking care of the displaced Syrian. A delegation of European parliamentarians visited Lebanon on Thursday, as where Abou- Faour seized the opportunity to ask for help.

The increased pressure posed by the influx of displaced Syrians, has overwhelmed all capacities in both government and communities. Abou- Faour said that it´s urgent for Lebanon to receive multi faceted EU assistance, in order to avert potential “socio-economic conflagration”, as he put it. He also said that abject poverty of the hosting Lebanese communities are arguing that they must receive their share from EU and other sources' assistance.

The minister concluded that borders would remain open to the displaced since keeping them out is inhumanly unthinkable.
