A Lebanese judge recused himself from looking into the case of the former Information Minister Michel Samaha.

Penal Court of Cassation Judge Joseph Samaha announced his decision on Monday, according to the National News Agency.

The report added that the judge removed himself from the request made by Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr to review two articles in the indictment issued by First Military Investigative Judge Riad Abu Ghida.

The NNA added that the reason behind the judge decision was to avoid “embarrassment.”

Ex-Information Minister Michel Samaha was arrested by Lebanese security forces in August of last year.

Samaha, who has close ties with Syria's embattled regime, was indicted with smuggling weapons into Lebanon in a bid to foment terrorism.
