Head of Lebanon’s Agricultural Research Institute Michel Afram escaped unharmed from a kidnapping attempt in east Lebanon late Wednesday.
The state-run National News Agency said Afram managed to escape from would be kidnappers after he exchanged machine-gun fire with them in Dhour Ksara, near the Bekaa city of Zahle.
Afram informed local police of the attempted abduction.
Lebanon has witnessed a rising kidnap-for-ransom wave.
