A Palestinian was killed and five others were wounded over the weekend as a result of a personal dispute at the refugee camp of Burj al-Shamali, near the southern port city of Tyre.
25-year-old Imad Fayez al-Qassem was killed in the Saturday evening incident which saw an armed clash between a group of young men at the camp. Moussa Hussein al-Khodeir and Jamal Saleh Awad were among the five other Palestinians wounded in the shooting, which raised tension in the camp.
Palestinian committees and factions held a meeting overnight and agreed to hand in Qassem’s killer to relevant authorities.
The factions voiced regret over the death of the young Palestinian and stressed that the clash had been the result of a personal dispute between the men and did not have political or family dimensions.
They also reiterated their keenness to preserve security at the camp and said they would continue looking in the matter.
The wounded Palestinians were transferred to local hospitals in Tyre for treatment.
