Social Affairs Minister Wael Abu Faour discussed Monday the Syrian refugees issue separately with the UNHCR’s representative in Lebanon Ninette Kelly and Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin.
The Central News Agency reported that following the meeting Zasypkin said, “We want to help the Syrian refugees in Lebanon and secure the best conditions for their stay.”
He added that Abu Faour briefed him on the state’s refugee plan.
“We will offer aid to the field hospitals and we raised the issue with the minister. We will also discuss this matter thoroughly with the relevant officials.”
Asked about the meeting on the Syrian crisis in Geneva, he said, “the consultations with the Americans are continuous.
A political settlement is needed in Syria and we don’t think any of the parties that are fighting are capable of winning the battle ... I think the Americans have the same concept regarding the need for a political resolution.”
