Four Syrian refugee children were rushed Wednesday to a hospital in Sidon, south Lebanon, after suffering a seizure in their sleep.
The children from al-Mohammad family were identified as 18-month-old Abdallah, Zainab, 4, Awad, 8, and Khadija, 10.
They were taken to Hamshari Hospital by a Lebanese Red Cross ambulance.
A physician at the hospital told The Daily Star the children were suffering from asphyxia.
“But we don’t know whether they inhaled a poisonous substance or gas,” one doctor said.
Their mother, Noura, said she had no idea what happened to her kids but cited poor ventilation in the room where they live as one possible reason.
President Michel Sleiman said recently that the number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon has exceeded 1 million.
