Dozens more Syrians fled to the Shebaa area of south Lebanon Friday as fighting intensified in areas close to the Golan Heights.
The National News Agency said 62 people arrived Friday from the Syrian village of Beit Jinn, with a dozen wounded among them.
The United Nations refugee agency reported that 265 Syrians fled heavy fighting and shelling in the village earlier in the week to reach Shebaa.
In its weekly report, the UNHCR also reported that according to local municipalities, 980 Syrians crossed into north Lebanon, almost half of whom reported shooting incidents en route.
Meanwhile, 3,400 Syrians are believed to have crossed into the Bekaa, up 200 from last week’s figure. Meanwhile, enrollment rates at public schools fell from 32,000 to 28,500 this week, the report states, attributing the sudden exodus mainly to the “difficulties they [the students] faced in successfully completing their mid-year exams.”
“Education partners are currently working to remedy the gap through remedial classes and after-school support,” the report adds.
The agency also reports that the number of refugee registrations has risen to more than 2,500 per day, with some 13,000 persons registered in total in the past week.
The total number of Syrians registered or awaiting registration in Lebanon now stands at 375,000.
