BEIRUT: The family of a suspected Israeli spy who began a hunger strike 10 days ago Wednesday called on President Michel Sleiman and other Arab leaders to intervene and rescue their “innocent” son.
“We plead with President [Sleiman] and the heads of Arab states to save Tarek [Rabaa] by meeting his legitimate demand for his release so he can end his hunger strike which he began on April 29,” the family said in a statement.
The statement pointed out the Military Tribunal had taken similar decisions in the past by releasing a number of individuals accused of collaborating with the Jewish state.
The family said their son, a telecoms engineer, had been kept in “arbitrary detention” for two years, nine months and 26 days.
