BEIRUT: A health survey of local and refugee youngsters has produced reassuring results, according to caretaker Health Minister Ali Hasan Khalil, as the ministry seeks to combat the spread of infectious diseases.
Khalil spoke at a meeting in which participants discussed reports compiled by ministry departments concerning the spread of Leishmaniasis, a parasitic disease, and an immunization campaign that covered 700,000 youths, including Syrian and Palestinian children.
A statement from the ministry said the reports contained “reassuring and satisfactory results,” and only one case of Leishmaniasis, contracted by a Lebanese girl.
It was unclear whether she had caught the disease from Syrian refugees.
The report said a total of 229 cases of the disease were reported among Syrian nationals, with all receiving treatment.
