The international court probing the assassination of Lebanon’s former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri has appointed Daryl Mundis of the United States as the new deputy registrar.
“Daryl Mundis was appointed this week as Deputy Registrar for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. He replaces Kaoru Okuizumi, who left the Tribunal in October,” the STL said on its website Monday.
According to the court, Mundis, who has served as Chief of Prosecutions at the STL since 2009, has an extensive background in international criminal justice.
He has served as Senior Prosecuting Trial Attorney at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague. He also served in the Chambers of the ICTY.
As part of his new role, Mundis will work with Herman von Hebel, the court’s Registrar, to provide “administrative, legal and other essential support to the Tribunal and will deputize in his absence.”
The court added, “Mr. Mundis will oversee judicial services to ensure the smooth running of court proceedings.”
