Hussein Ali Awada, who owns a linen shop in Baalbek’s old city, was let go around midnight without any ransom being paid, the source said.
The source, speaking to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said the kidnapping may have been the result of a dispute between Awada’s father and members of the powerful Jaafar clan.
Awada had recently informed police that a "gang" from the Jaafars demanded he pay them $5,000 but he had refused.
Lebanon has seen a spike in kidnappings as the country’s security situation deteriorated related to the Syrian conflict.
