BEIRUT: A Lebanese businessman was kidnapped overnight in the eastern town of Baalbek, security sources said Wednesday.
They said Hussein Ali Awada, who owns a linen shop in Baalbek’s old city, was snatched around midnight.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Awada had recently informed police that a "gang" from the Jaafar clan demanded he pay them $5,000 but that he had refused.
Lebanon has been hit by a spate of kidnap-for-ransom.
