BEIRUT: General Security reported Tuesday that negotiations were accelerating with relevant parties to free nine Lebanese kidnapped in May of last year in the Syrian town of Azaz.
However, a statement from the office of the General Director Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim denied recent reports published in several media outlets that the kidnapped would be freed in two batches in exchange for female prisoners held by the Syrian regime in line with the kidnappers’ demands.
This information “is not accurate and in some cases imaginary,” the statement said.
Ibrahim asked media outlets to “respect the feelings of the families of the kidnapped and to approach this sensitive and complicated issue with reality and the necessary accuracy to ensure the safety of negotiations.”
