BEIRUT: A girl kidnapped in Mount Lebanon earlier in the week was wounded when police managed to free the 11-year-old from her abductors, security sources said Thursday.
Shahenda Farouq Zohbi, the daughter of farmers from the north Lebanon region of Akkar who work in Jbeil, was snatched Wednesday by two individuals outside a supermarket in Jbeil, Mount Lebanon.
Her kidnappers, identified as A. Mansour and M. Mekdash, demanded a ransom of $80,000, during a telephone call to Zohbi’s father.
The father reported the incident to the police and authorities managed to lure the kidnappers later Wednesday to the Amsheet highway linking Jbeil to Beirut.
However, the girl was slightly wounded during a shootout between the police and her kidnappers.
Zohbi was transferred to a local hospital in the region.
Her kidnappers were arrested and an investigation has been launched.
