BEIRUT: An investigation into an alleged breach of contract by a firm tasked with reconstructing Roumieh prison got underway Wednesday, with members of the probe committee touring the facility.
The probe was launched Wednesday by a judicial committee commissioned by the Audit Bureau. Committee members met with Brig. Gen. Pierre Hayek and chief of the prison protection division Col. Ghassan Maalouf.
Members also received a detailed brief about the renovation plans, including how they are to be implemented.
Committee members also toured sections of the prison, including blocs B and D to see the progress being made firsthand. The committee is expected to interview other relevant figures in the coming days.
