The Special Tribunal for Lebanon probing the 2005 assassination of former Premier Rafiq Hariri appointed a new deputy registrar, according to a statement issued Monday by the court.

“Daryl Mundis was appointed this week as Deputy Registrar for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. He replaces Kaoru Okuizumi, who left the Tribunal in October,” the statement said.

The tribunal added that Mundis “served as Chief of Prosecutions at the STL from 2009 until his appointment as Deputy Registrar.”

“He will be working with the Registrar, Mr. Herman von Hebel, to provide administrative, legal and other essential support to the Tribunal and will deputize in his absence."

"Mundis will oversee judicial services to ensure the smooth running of court proceedings," the statement also said.

The Netherlands-based court indicted four Hezbollah members in Hariri’s killing. However, Hezbollah strongly denied the charges and refuses to cooperate with the court.
