Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said that his bloc will propose a draft law in order to tackle the issue of Syrian refugees on Lebanese soil.

"The bloc will propose a draft law to deal with this issue," Aoun said during a visit to the Beqaa town of Zahle on Saturday.

He also said that he had contacted the Syrian National Reconciliation Minister who "revealed that there is an initiative for allowing these refugees to return to their towns and villages in Syria."

In addition to the political and security tension affecting Lebanon as a result of the Syrian crisis, the country is facing difficulties dealing with the increasingly high number of refugees fleeing Syria’s violent uprising against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, which, according to the UN, has killed more than 100,000 people since its outbreak in March 2011.

The Change and Reform bloc leader also reiterated his refusal of a technocrat cabinet.

“Political adventures should not be taken, such as [forming] a technocrat cabinet or a de facto cabinet, which will take the country to destruction and will not be able to rule the country in case of an incident,” Aoun also said during a night speech.

He also slammed the politically neutral, and said that they are not concerned with the country’s problem.

“Who are the neutral? The neutral [people] are not concerned with their country’s issues, otherwise they would be activists in a certain direction.”

He also addressed his audience saying: “You can lift the table with one finger, what can a politically independent person do on their own?”

Lebanon is still waiting for the formation of a new government by designate-PM Tammam Salam after the resignation of the government of now caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati. The PM-designate’s latest proposal is based on giving a third share to the opposing political blocks – March 14 and March 8, and a third share to centrists.
