Caretaker Social Affairs Minister Wael Abu Faour reassured Wednesday the international community that the caretaker government would remain committed to assisting thousands of Syrian refugees on Lebanese soil.
"Despite the resignation of the government, the issue of the Syrian refugees remains the focus of a heavy follow up given its importance and danger," Abu Faour told U.N. and EU officials in his meetings, his office said.
"The caretaker government will carry out its full duties in this case that would guarantee the aid and protection of the refugees and guarantee help from both the Arab and international communities to the Lebanese government and the Lebanese society," he added.
Abu Faour's remarks came during separate meetings with U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon Robert Watkins, European Union Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, and UNHCR's representative in Lebanon, Ninette Kelly.
More than 375,000 Syrians have taken refuge across Lebanon since the uprising began and officials estimate that the number will reach half a million in June.
