Islamist detainees in Roumieh prison held several members of the Internal Security Forces hostage after a small protest turned into a riot amid demands for general amnesty, the National News Agency and TV stations reported.
NNA said the prisoners began calling for amnesty when the security personnel prevented a female visitor from meeting a detainee for not having a visit permit.
While the state-run agency did not reveal whether officers were detained, MTV and LBCI stations said around 13 ISF members were held in the prison's bloc B.
But they were released shortly after, they said.
Islamists staged a protest in downtown Beirut on Sunday calling for justice for the detainees.
The prisoners have been held in Roumieh without charge since 2007. They were arrested on charges of fighting or aiding the Fatah al-Islam fighters in the gunbattles with the Lebanese army at the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp that lies near the northern coastal city of Tripoli.
