BEIRUT: Military Prosecutor Saqr Saqr Wednesday extended once more the detention of Sheikh Abdel-Razzaq Hammoud and Sheikh Ahmad Gharib over the recent car bombings in north Lebanon that killed at least 47 people and wounded hundreds.
The National News Agency said Saqr visited the Information Branch of the Internal Security Forces and extended Hammoud and Gharib’s detention by a period of 24 hours.
This is the second extension for the two, who were detained a day after the two car bombings outside mosques in the northern city of Tripoli.
A security source said Tuesday Gharib had confessed during interrogation that Syrian intelligence was behind the attacks in Tripoli, the scene of frequent violence over the conflict in Syria.
