BEIRUT: A round-table discussion about human rights policies and practices in women’s prisons kicked off Tuesday at the headquarters of the Beirut Bar Association.
Elizabeth Sioufi, the head of the Human Rights Institute at the Beirut Bar Association, said that alleviating bad living conditions in Lebanon’s prisons has become a pressing need.
She called for “a comprehensive plan” to improve the interior state of buildings and provide equipment needed in prisons, all the while adhering to international standards in prison management and the treatment of inmates.
