A number of journalists and civil society activists held a protest near the Justice Palace Tuesday after Lebanese journalist Mohanad Hage Ali was summoned for questioning by the Internal Security Forces Cyber Crimes Unit.

Protestors called for journalists and activists to be questioned by the country’s judiciary, and not the Cyber Crimes Unit, LBC television reported.Later Tuesday, Judge Samir Hammoud withdrew Hage Ali’s file from the ISF’s Cyber Crimes Unit, the report added.

Meanwhile, a number of attorneys gathered and demanded that the role of the Cyber Crimes Unit be regulated and for the investigative bureau to distance itself from investigating journalists or activists.

Hage Ali had previously been questioned in July by the ISF’s Cyber Crimes Unit over an alleged link to an article critical of Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea.
