BEIRUT: The Japanese government announced Monday that it would provide $43.4 million in emergency aid to displaced Syrians inside the country and refugees abroad.
Of the aid, $8.2 million will be given to the Lebanese government to be spent on Japanese-made medical equipment and emergency supplies.
Another $25 million will go toward international aid organizations operating in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan and Turkey to support the distribution of food, water and medical supplies.
The money is part of a $60 million aid package Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced at the U.N. General Assembly in New York Thursday.
