BAALBEK, Lebanon: Members of the Ismail clan in the northern Bekaa Valley kidnapped six more Syrians Sunday in retaliation for the abduction of their relative.
The six were kidnapped on the road between Baalbek’s Brital and Hor Taala villages.
Yasser Ali Ismail, a prominent member of the Ismail clan, was kidnapped from the area of Brital in Hermel and taken to the Syrian border town of Rankous a few days ago.
Ismail was kidnapped by a professional gang notorious for taking hostages in exchange for ransom. The gang demanded $500,000 in return for his release.
Ismail’s relatives had previously kidnapped three Syrians Saturday to pressure the gang to free him.
All nine Syrians who were kidnapped hail from the Syrian district of Qalamoun, which is the hometown of the gang members who were identified by the Ismail clan.
