Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said that the solution for the Syrian refugees crisis would be to create safe locations inside Syria for the refugees to return to.

“[The solution] is to establish safe areas inside Syria under the protection of the international [community],” Geagea said on Saturday during a meeting with US Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale.

Lebanon has been facing difficulties dealing with the increasingly high number of refugees fleeing Syria’s violent uprising against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad which has so far killed over 115,000 people.

The UN refugee agency UNHCR has registered more than 746,000 Syrians in Lebanon, though many others remain unregistered.

The Lebanese government puts the number of Syrians in the country at 1.3 million, though that figure includes Syrians who were already in the country when the conflict began 31 months ago.
