BEIRUT: A judge issued an arrest warrant Thursday for a defected Syrian colonel, who confessed that he was planning on forming a rebel group in north Lebanon to fight in Syria. 
Military Investigative Judge Fadi Sawwan issued the warrant against Col. Mohammad Ahmad Amer following a thorough interrogation, a judicial source told The Daily Star. 
While in custody, the defected colonel confessed to collaborating with rebels from the Free Syrian Army in Turkey to establish a rebel brigade in Tripoli, the source said. 
Amer, according to the source, had defected from the Syrian army and fled to Tripoli with his family. He was arrested last month for possessing arms and explosives. 
A compact disc and a USB device confiscated from the his home in Tripoli allegedly contained strategic plans, the source added.
