Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said that some terror suspects entered Lebanon under the guise of Syrian refugees.

“Security concerns are growing… Security agencies are monitoring groups of suspects who had entered Lebanon as Syrian refugees but have enrolled in undertaking dangerous security and terrorist activities,” Charbel said in remarks published by Al-Mustaqbal newspaper on Thursday.

The minister also said that the security plan for the northern city of Tripoli will be implemented over two stages and that it will run “under my direct supervision.”

Charbel masterminded a security plan for the Shiite Beirut stronghold of Dahiyeh after two explosions ripped through neighborhoods of the Beirut area last month leaving dozens dead and several injured.

Tripoli, which over the past months had witnessed sectarian clashes linked to the war in Syria, was also targeted by twin car bomb explosions that detonated near two mosques killing at least 42 people.
