BEIRUT: An inmate was found hanged in Roumieh prison Monday, security sources told The Daily Star.
Nour al-Arab was found dead, in an apparent act of suicide, in one of the prison’s bathrooms in Block B, the sources said.
According to the sources, Arab, who was detained for fraud, was in severe debt and did not have the funds to pay back his financiers, all of whom were fellow inmates.
Military Prosecutor Saqr Saqr tasked his assistant Kamal Nassar with launching an investigation.
Investigators are trying to determine if the inmate committed suicide, the sources said.
