Report Launching by Admin Admin: STL schedules start of January trial

BEIRUT: The Trial Chamber of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon has scheduled the trial of Ayyash et al. for January 16, 2014, the tribunal said in a statement Tuesday.
The trial will start at 9:30 CET, with opening statements to be delivered by the prosecutor, legal representatives of victims, as well as the opening statements of the defense.
“This decision has been made after consulting the parties to the case at the Trial Chamber’s last public hearing,” a statement from the STL said.
The STL was set up to try those responsible for the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
In 2011, it indicted Hezbollah members Salim Jamil Ayyash, Mustafa Amin Badreddine, Hussein Hassan Oneissi, and Assad Hassan Sabra.
