BEIRUT – Lebanese caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said that weekly search operations will take place in the Roumieh Prison’s Bloc B, in which Islamist prisoners are held.

“Inspections by members of the Internal Security Forces in all the cells of Roumieh Prison’s Bloc B will start tomorrow,” Charbel said Wednesday during a press conference, according to the National News Agency.

“This will be repeated every week,” he added.

Charbel also said that the security forces will show on television any suspicious objects that they find.

“You will see that the state does exist, and that everybody in under the law, even the prisoners in this block.”

Islamist prisoners are held in Roumieh’s Bloc B, which has been the scene of numerous riots and security disturbances.

In November, As-Safir newspaper reported that a number of inmates in the bloc were affiliated with the Al-Nusra Front, and were plotting terror attacks.
