BEIRUT: First Investigative Magistrate Ghassan Ouweidat has called on witnesses to testify on Dec. 26 in a public funds embezzlement case, the National News Agency reported.
Ouweidat heard testimony from two witnesses in the case as he continued to probe the alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to the Higher Relief Council.
Ibrahim Bashir, the head of the HRC, was arrested along with his wife in November on the order of acting State Prosecutor Samir Hammoud for allegedly embezzling public funds.
The decision came after Bashir was subjected to a lengthy interrogation at the Justice Palace over allegations that he transferred $10 million from the committee’s account to his personal account outside Lebanon.
