Recognizing Journalists
For Their Coverage of Human Rights During Crises
Beirut, January 28, 2025 – The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) organized a gathering with the winners of the "Journalistic Coverage in Times of Crisis" competition, held as part of the Masarouna project in collaboration with Oxfam. The competition aimed to highlight the pivotal role of journalists in defending human rights, empowering them to deepen their expertise in this crucial field, and showcasing their skills and dedication to responsible, fact-based reporting that supports human rights causes—especially those contributing to a better future for Lebanon.
CLDH Secretary-General, Dr. Rouba El Helou, opened the session with remarks expressing appreciation for the winners’ commitment and outstanding efforts. This was followed by a presentation from Oxfam colleagues about the Masarouna project, emphasizing its key objectives, vision for empowering youth to advocate for their rights, and the major achievements of the initiative so far.
In the second part of the gathering, the winners engaged in an interactive discussion, sharing the challenges posed by Lebanon’s ongoing crises. Participants also explored recent developments affecting journalistic coverage, including human rights topics, the impact of digital transformations, and how these shifts influence content moderation policies and fact-checking processes.
