The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) welcomes the decision of the French Court of Appeal to release Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, the former leader of the Lebanese Revolutionary Armed Factions and the longest-held political prisoner in France, on the condition that he leaves French territory and agrees not to return. The Center urges the French authorities to implement this decision without delay by facilitating his departure, especially considering the obstacles that have previously hindered the enforcement of similar rulings.

Additionally, CLDH reminds that keeping Abdallah in detention, despite his having met the conditions for release years ago, contradicts France’s international human rights commitments and constitutes a blatant violation of his fundamental rights. Furthermore, the Center calls for an end to this chapter of arbitrary detention and insists on preventing such violations from recurring in the future through strict adherence to international law.
